Maybelline Color Elixir by Color Sensational
Prepare yourself-- I am about to rave about lip gloss.
What you see above is the absolute best lip gloss I have ever tried, and yes, it is a drug store brand. The one in the middle was the first one I purchased. The shade is Vision in Violet. Right now I am obsessed with purple lips. Well, I am actually obsessed with anything purple. This lip gloss is so pigmented that you don't even have to wear a lipstick under it and it has really good lasting power. If I put this on for work at 8am, I do not have to reapply until after I eat lunch. The gloss isn't sticky at all, which I like, and it is so smooth and almost feels like a gel like consistency on your lips. The applicator is awesome as well. It is a doe foot applicator, but it has little ridges on it that fit to your lip and distribute the gloss evenly across your lips. I'll insert a photo below.
In my last post, I mentioned that I had been to a billion stores looking for a limited edition lip gloss. I even had a friend of mine look in Ulta in Knoxville, TN to no avail. I finally found the shade I had been dying for in the Ulta in Hamburg Pavilion in Lexington. In the photo above, the shade on the far left is called Luxe in Lilac. It is part of Maybelline's summer collection that I have not been able to find anywhere. I'm not even going to lie-- This lip gloss was such a disappointment. I still love the formula, but this shade is not near as pigmented at the bright purple one I purchased initially. If you like a sheer wash of color, I would recommend this one for you. Personally, I love big, bold lips and this shade just doesn't work for me unless I put a lipstick under it (I suggest Maybelline Color Sensational in Brazen Berry if you go this route).
I picked up the orange one at Rite Aid with some Up rewards I had saved up. This shade is Breathtaking Apricot. This one was not near as pigmented as the violet one, but also not as sheer as the lilac tube. It look more pink on the lips when you apply it and is very wearable. I find that I sometimes have a hard time pulling off orange lips. Sometimes it makes my teeth look yellow and makes my skin look almost jaundiced if I'm not careful what shade I choose, which is not what most people want to look like. I really like this shade though and I would recommend it for any skin tone. It seems to be universally flattering. Way to go, Maybelline!
Lastly, the best part of this lip gloss has to be the price! At Wal-Mart these glosses are about $6.99, at Rite Aid and Ulta they are $8.99, and they are around the same price at Walgreens as well. I would wait until these babies go on sale at Rite Aid and rack up. Just last week they had 30% off all Maybelline products and Ulta had a deal that was buy one, get one 50% when I was there last weekend. I wouldn't pay the Wal-Mart price just because other places always go on sale, pair it up with a manufacturer coupon and BAM! You've got yourself a great deal. What are you waiting for? Run out and pick a few of these up! I promise you will not be disappointed.
