Part 2: Why Am I Not Losing Weight? More Foods That Could Be Causing Your Weight Loss Plateau

Remember when I did a list of seemingly healthy foods that could be stalling your weight loss? Click HERE if you have not read that post. I have a few more additions to add since I posted that list. That's right, today I am going to sharing more "wolf in sheep's clothing" health foods that may be the contributing factor to your weight loss plateau.

1.) Spaghetti sauce
Who would have thought that spaghetti sauce would be loaded with sugar? Not me, that's for sure. I remember when I first started dieting and I went to Kroges and looked at the label on the back of a jar of Ragu. I nearly fell through the floor! You are much better off to make your own sauce if you can, but if you you are pressed for time or just don't feel like stewing tomatoes and stirring sauce for ages, try to buy meat flavored sauces. Those are lower in sugar, and thus, lower in carbs. Click HERE for the recipe to my low carb version of pizza using spaghetti sauce!

2.) Olives
I love olives. Not the black ones, but I love the green ones! Nomz. Countless people used to give me dieting advice and be like "You should use olives as a snack. They are so healthy and good for you and low carb, too!" Child, please. They make freaking oil from olives! What part of that sounds like it is going to help me lose weight?! No part of that. The fat content on olives is through the roof. The same goes for nuts, as well. If you can make oil from it, chances are that you should probably avoid it until you hit your goal weight. No, I'm not an idiot. I realize these are monounsaturated fats, also deemed "healthy fats," but sorry, I'm going to try to keep all fats out of my mouth until I'm finished dieting and I have scored myself a trophy husband.

3.) "Healthy" TV dinners
We have all been tempted to grab a Lean Cuisine or 20 when they are on sale at the grocery store. Let's be honest, no one is ever full from just one of those things, and if you say you are, I'll be the first to call you out on it as I see you sneaking snacks from your purse. Have you ever looked at the nutritional value on one of these mofos?! OMG like 30+ carbs for some bland green beans, mystery meat, and exactly 2 slices of mushrooms. Where are those carbs coming from?! Are they including the cardboard box in the nutritional information? I don't even know. It boggles my minds. You're better off to avoid this whole section at the grocery store unless you're picking up some frozen spinach or something that is not the work of the devil.

4.) Peanut Butter
Mmm nut butter is my favorite food group. Peanut butter, almond butter, you name it and I will want it slathered all over me as soon as possible. Once again, with this delicious food, we run into the problem with fat, but the sugar content is really the downfall! Sure, you can put peanut butter on a celery stick and call it healthy, but with 15 carbs in a 2oz serving, you're not doing so well on your diet. If you can find a whipped version of PB, buy that instead of regular. Typically, this kind has less carbs and calories because it is chocked full of air, which is the only healthy additive there is. I like to the get natural peanut butter with no sugar added. This is the kind that separates at room temperature. I know it looks gross, but if you mix it up really good then sit it in your fridge, you won't have to stir it anymore and it won't separate again.

5.) Wheat Bread
IT'S BROWN! THAT MEANS IT'S NOT BLEACHED AND IS HEALTHY! No, boo. Once again, check your label on that loaf of Sara Lee and tell me what you see. Probably high fructose corn syrup, for one, especially if it is labeled "honey wheat." Remember what I told you to think when you see HFCS on a label? That's right-- sugar= carbs = fat rolls. You'll probably see words like "Whole Grain" or "9 Grain" on there, too. Rarely do companies use the entire whole grain when making bread and typically only use certain parts of the grain. Check your labels and if you see any kind of sketchy adjective, like enriched or bleached, run! Run for your life! Obviously, the grain has been modified in these foods and is not nearly as nutritious as you may think. As for the various numbers of grains they stick on the packaging, who even knows what that means? 9 grains gave up their lives and left their families for this loaf of pumpernickel. You're better off to save these carbs and calories for something a little more kosher.

And there you have it, guys! A few more unhealthy foods that may be causing your weight loss to slow down. Plateaus suck and they are so depressing. If you're stuck, try to up your water intake as much as possible and try to get some extra physical activity in, even if it is just taking the stairs instead of the elevator or parking a little farther away than you normally would. Do you all know of any other foods that I need to add to my list? I would love to hear from you! 1. 100 Calorie Packs! They are just tiny versions of the junk you want to eat and leave you starving for the whole box. Haha!

    1. I know! I hate them. You're better off to eat one real oreo than to eat a 100 calorie pack of what seems to be oreo flavored crackers haha
