I have a date tonight! If we weren't already engaged, I would think Trent was going to propose. We don't do date nights too often, so I was super excited to get all dressed up. Also, I plan on doing a series of tutorials for each eye color. Since I'm a brown eyed girl, I went with purples (I LOVE PURPLE OMG) and created a smokey eye so simple anyone can do it. If purple isn't yo' thang, you can always do neutrals to tone it down. I'm all about color make up and making a scene. I'm so fancyyy, you already know (that song has been stuck in my head for two straight weeks). TURN UP!
What you will need:
-Several purple eye shadows
-Light shimmery shadow or pigment
-White base
-Favorite mascara
-Favorite eyeliner
When it comes to eye shadow, especially purple, my collection is ridiculous. I have a couple Wet 'N Wild palettes I picked up a while back, and I am going to be using various shadows from those in this look.
The palette to the left is limited edition from the Spring 2014 collection and is called "Flirting at the After Party," while the palette on the right is part of their regular line and is named "Petal Pusher." These are super cheap at around $5 each, but I bought mine when they are on sale for BOGO free at Rite aid and then I had $5 in Up rewards, so I got them both fo' free!
First thing you always need to do is prime your lid. You can use concealer for this step if you don't have eye shadow primer. Take your blending brush and run a medium purple color back and forth in your crease. I used the third one down on the left side of the "Flirting at the After Party" palette.
Ahhhh!!! I look like the Hamburglar and Grimace's love child! That's okay, boo. We are a work in process. Take a darker color purple (I used the third one down on the left side of the Petal Pusher palette" and work it back and forth with your blending brush over the first purple you laid down. Make sure to focus on the inner and outer corners and leave your eyelid blank. We will work on that in a minute. You may need to work on this for a few minutes and that is okay. The more you blend, the better the end result.
Now that you have gotten your crease nice and smoked out, take a white base, here I am using NYX jumbo pencil in Milk, and apply it to your lid. Do not touch it to the purple. Only the blank part of your lid should have this product applied to it. I usually just draw a little line of the white base on my lid, then blend it out with my finger.
After you lay down your white base, take any shimmery shadow (here I am using L'Oreal infallible shadow in Iced Latte) and tap it over the white base. These shadows are more like a pressed pigment so they are super potent. If you have a pigment you like, use it instead. Your face is your canvas so have some fun with it!
Go get your eyeliner on! I did a simple winged liner but you can do whatever you want or even skip liner all together if it's not your style. You do need mascara. If anyone ever says they don't have to wear mascara, slap them. Everyone needs mascara. Trust me.
After you get your lashes on, you should have something that looks similar to this. I wish my crappy iPhone could take better pictures, but maybe one day I will have a legit camera. Until then, SELFIE TIME!
**Optional steps! Now if you're like me, you want to look as dramatic as possible. To complete this look, take some of that darker purple shadow and smudge it into your bottom eye lashes. I also put purple liner in my waterline as well. Lastly, to brighten everything up, take a little bit of that Iced Latte shadow and tap it on your inner corner of your eye and BAM! On my lips I am wearing on of Revlon's new Colorstay Moisture Stains (review on these to come) in the shade Barcelona Nights. I'm ready for my date. Someone pass the cheese fries, momma is hungry!
I hope you all like this look! I really enjoyed doing it and wearing it out to dinner. Are you going to try this look out on yourself? I would love to see you in it!
